Definition of Angling: The Ontario Fishery Regulation's definition of angling is as follows, "angling means fishing with a line to which one or more hooks are attached and that is held in the hand or is attached to a rod that is held in the hand or closely attended".

Gear Restrictions: Unless otherwise stated, each angler may use only one line, except for ice-fishing. A fishing line must not have more than four hooks. On an artificial lure, a gang containing up to three hooks is considered to be one hook. In all other situations, a double hook counts as two hooks; and a treble hook counts as three hooks.

Ice Fishing: In most areas two lines may be used for ice fishing and anglers may use a tip-up for ice-fishing, but must remain within 60 m (197 ft) of any line with which they are fishing. They must have at all times a clear, unobstructed view of the lines being used.

Exporting, Transporting or Storing Fish:

A recreational angler may, on leaving Ontario, take the designated possession limit from the water body as noted in the regulations for that area. No live fish or spawn may be transferred from one body of water to another without the consent of the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Preparing fish for Exporting, Transporting or Storing:

When you are exporting, transporting or storing, you must ensure that the fish can be easily identified and counted. Where length limits apply, you must also ensure that the length of the fish can be easily determined. To prepare fish for exporting, transporting or storing, you must do the following:

* Leave a large portion of the skin, including scales, on all fish or fillets so they can be identified.

* Wrap or freeze fish separately so they can be counted.

* Where length limits or size restrictions are in effect, leave both the head and tail on the fish so that it can be measured.
