Hunting & Fishing
In the Shining Tree area, there are many different kinds of hunting
and fishing packages available from all the local tourist outfitters.
Hunting:
The Shining Tree area offers both big game and small
game hunting in the fall. Black bear and moose populations are stable and offer
exciting challenges for the big game hunter. For the small game hunter,
Grouse, Snowshoe Rabbits, and migrating Ducks are abundant. We recommend
that you hunt through a local outfitter for the best chance of success.
Most offer guided hunts for bear and moose. Refer to Ministry of Natural Resources website
for more information. Licenses can be obtained from various tourist
camps in the local area.

Fishing:
Fishing in the Shining Tree area can be very rewarding.
There are many different kinds of fish that populate local lakes and streams.
These include: Northern Pike, Walleye (Pickerel), Smallmouth bass, Whitefish,
Perch, and many Trout species including Lakers, Brook, Rainbow, Aurora (rare),
and Splake (Brook trout/Lake trout hybrid cross). The town of Shining Tree is situated on West Shining
Tree Lake, which flows into a series of five other lakes through some narrow
passages. There are also many other lakes within driving range to satisfy
the adventurous fisherman.
During the winter months, ice-fishing is a very
popular sport. It combines some great snowmobile rides with an opportunity
to catch some great fish. Whether fishing with a group of friends or by
yourself, you are sure to enjoy the peaceful outdoors and the spectacular
winter scenery.
The Ministry of Natural Resources practices the
right to have some lakes open only during certain years. This is to ensure
a good quality of fishing for everyone. If you would like specific information
about a particular species or lake and the fishing season, you can
download
the entire regulations from the Ministry of Natural Resources website. Fishing
licenses can be purchased from a few tourist outfitting camps in Shining
Tree. There are two types of licenses available, a conservation and a regular
license. Depending on your preference you may want to ask which is better
for your vacation.
We encourage "catch and release".
